Packing for a last-minute weekend trip.

Sometimes the best trips are the ones you barely plan like the last-minute weekend trip. Whether you’re craving a quick escape from routine or just found cheap flights, a spontaneous weekend getaway doesn’t have to be stressful. Here are some last-minute travel tips to make it happen with ease.

1. Book Smart, Not Fast

Instead of rushing to grab the first available flight or hotel, use tools like Google Flights or Skyscanner to find the best deals. If you’re driving, check last-minute hotel apps such as HotelTonight or Priceline’s Express Deals for discounted stays. I have found many great deals on last-minute stays on Hotel Tonight.

2. Pack Light & Right

Since time is short when planning last-minute weekend trips, pack only the essentials: versatile outfits, comfortable shoes, travel-sized toiletries and a charger. If flying, stick to a carry-on to avoid baggage delays. It’s a weekend, you don’t need too much.

3. Keep Your Itinerary Flexible

I’m a huge fan of less is more. Overplanning defeats the purpose of a spontaneous trip. Instead, pick one or two must-do activities and leave room for wandering, local recommendations and unexpected discoveries.

4. Skip the Reservations, Opt for Walk-Ins

Last-minute dining reservations can be tough to score but many great restaurants accept walk-ins, especially if you are willing to go at off-peak hours. Check Google Maps or OpenTable for waitlist options.

5. Use Public Transport & Ride-Sharing Apps

If renting a car isn’t an option, research public transport or use Uber/Lyft for quick and convenient travel. Many cities also have bike or scooter rentals for an easy way to explore. If you are traveling to a big city, save time and download Citymapper. It can tell you the best modes of transportation for getting just about anywhere in major metropolises such as London, Paris or New York.

6. Be Open to Surprises

Some of the best experiences come from unexpected moments—stumbling upon a street festival, meeting locals or finding an incredible view you didn’t plan for. Let the trip unfold naturally! Nothing to see or do? Relax! Book a spa appointment, watch a movie in your hotel room. Have some me time.

Ready to Go?

A last-minute weekend trip doesn’t need to be chaotic. With the right mindset and a few smart choices, you can enjoy a stress-free escape and return feeling refreshed. If you need help planning your next getaway, I’d love to share my tips and recommendations!
