Packing for the Galápagos: Essentials for Adventure

Are you packing for the Galapagos? Get ready for one of the most unforgettable adventures of your life!

A cruise through this remote archipelago offers close encounters with wildlife, stunning volcanic landscapes, and daily excursions by boat and on foot. But what you pack can make or break your experience—here’s what to bring to stay comfortable, prepared, and camera-ready.

Packing for the Galapagos

1. Lightweight, Quick-Dry Clothing
Pack breathable clothes that dry quickly—think moisture-wicking shirts, convertible pants, and shorts. You’ll be hiking, snorkeling, and possibly getting splashed during panga (dinghy) rides.

2. Swimwear & Rash Guard
Bring at least two swimsuits so you always have a dry one. A long-sleeve rash guard is great for sun protection and warmth during snorkeling.

3. Sturdy Water Shoes or Sport Sandals
You’ll need shoes that can handle “wet landings” (stepping into shallow water from a boat). Closed-toe water shoes or hiking sandals with good grip are ideal.

4. Hiking Shoes
For dry land excursions over rocky terrain or volcanic rock, lightweight hiking shoes or trail runners are a must.

5. Sun Protection
The equatorial sun is intense! Pack a wide-brim hat, polarized sunglasses, reef-safe sunscreen, and lip balm with SPF.

6. Waterproof Dry Bag & Daypack
Use a dry bag to protect electronics and valuables during boat rides. A small daypack is useful for carrying water, sunscreen, and a camera during hikes.

7. Snorkel Gear (Optional)
Most cruises provide gear, but if you have a well-fitting mask and snorkel, it’s worth bringing your own.

8. Extras
Don’t forget binoculars, a good camera, seasickness remedies, and reef-safe insect repellent.

With the right gear, you’ll be free to enjoy the magic of the Galápagos—comfortably and confidently.
